Business Opportunities

One of the four points of the National Main Street Program is Economic Restructuring. The Economic Restructuring Committee, in full cooperation with its Economic Development Subcommittee, is dedicated to developing a sound economic base for Cordell, Oklahoma.

This committee works toward four goals:
  1. Retention and expansion of existing downtown Cordell businesses.

  2. Strengthening the economic base of the community.

  3. Attracting new businesses and industry to our city.

  4. Hosting meaningful educational programs for local merchants.

Heritage tourism is a growing trend across the nation. Cordell and its designated historical downtown square, along with the fabulous Washita County Courthouse and the newly renovated Washita Theater, is an exciting place for niche businesses to be located. The Washita Theater has placed a new after 5:00 PM crowd downtown with its daily showing of big screen movies.

Economic Restructuring Committee Goals:

  • To grow a sustainable economy based on the skills and aspirations of our local citizens.

  • To encourage home-based businesses to expand into full-fledged businesses and establishes a traditional retail store.

  • To create new business opportunities around Heritage Tourism.

  • To provide a way for citizens to become future business/industry owners.

  • To create a multi-façade public health care program that aimed at citizen retain age and job creation.

  • To recruit and/or purchase existing businesses and/or industry to relocate into Cordell.

  • To reverse the out-migration or loss of our young people to big cities by showing them opportunities in their hometown.

  • To establish a school program that will encourage community involvement and leadership training.

  • To assist in mentoring type programs.
